Garden
of Joy will become home for some 60 children. Most will be orphaned
when their parents die from the effects of HIV-AIDS. Orphans from
other circumstances may also be accepted.
Garden
of Joy will become the 33rd household in the small village of Sobhan
(meaning "to dream").
A Christian couple will 'parent' the children, helped and supported
by a few other caregivers, recruited from among the local villagers.
Adults will love and respect the children. They will be trained
and equipped to provide holistic care and godly counsel.
Children
will:
- attend school
- learn about
Jesus
- develop character
- do household
chores
- play (and
play some more)
- learn about
their culture
- explore new
ideas
- try new things
- serve their
community
- and much
more.

Since
1998, some 100 children began to experience "life" after
they joined the family at the Unacas orphanage in Beik Chan. For
them, "life" included school, play, loving caregivers,
responsibility, health, lots of food, serving people, and a growing
personal relationship with Jesus.
Orphans
at Garden of Joy and children in the village of Sobhan will have
similar opportunities. As they enjoy "life," we believe
they will discover and use their skills, abilities and personal
gifts in serving God and people. We hope they will eventually become
godly Christian leaders who will make a positive impact in their
future families, churches and communities. |

Chantha
& Savate, the first children orphaned at Place of Peace, can hardly
wait for their new home to be ready! Chantha has never been to school
and he doesn't know how to read and write. He loves sports. Savate
entered the government school for the first time on October 6, 2003. |

A Jumpah flower rarely blossoms
in Cambodia. People pluck the slender white buds to enjoy their elegant
beauty and their mild fragrance. In the same way, orphans and other
children, widows and poor Cambodians have very little opportunity
to reach their potential as people created in the image of God. With
your help, we can encourage, nurture and enable at least some to blossom. |
