Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC) was organized by Japan International Cooperation Systems (JICS) by the fund of Japanese Grant Aid to implement "Peace Building and Comprehensive Small Arms Management Program in Cambodia.

In Cambodia, which has a long history of civil war and social disorder, there still remains many Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW). According to one estimation, 300,000 to 500,000 SALW exist in this country. Most of these SALW are possessed by local villagers in rural areas, and they have been a big obstacle for Peace. Japan Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC) is supporting Peace Building in Cambodia, through collection of illegally possessed weapons and introduction of stockpiling system to manage legal weapons.

Weapons surrendered by civilians are destroyed
What is SALW?
"Small Arms", weapons designed for personal use, and "Light Weapons" those designed for use by several persons as a crew are collectively called SALW.
SALW includes pistols, rifles, and potable launchers of anti-tank missiles, Landmines and explosives are also types of SALW in the broad sense.
The number of victims of SALW is said to be more than 500,000 a year, and thus, SALW is sometimes called "de facto Weapons of Mass Destruction."

WDP Project:
WDP Project is a new weapons collection methodology established by JSAC.
WDP Project stands for Weapons Reduction and Development for Peace Project.
